Muslim Changemakers Course: Leadership Through Training
MADE in 2016 partnered with Ebrahim College to develop the Muslim Changemakers course: leadership through campaigning. This course was supported and heavily subsidised by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
MADE has runs two versions for three different groups of people:
- Comprehensive: 20-30 hours – for Islamic trainee scholars (in their place of learning); and for the general public (evening course)
- Abridged: one day or two day course – for university Islamic Society students.
The course covers:
- developing a vision (including the Islamic perspective; and why we need change-makers)
- planning a campaign (campaigning skills, community organising tools)
- getting people on board (media and leadership skills)
IMPACT SO FAR
Almost 10,000 pupils have taken part in our assemblies and workshops to date. 98% of young people we worked with learnt something new from the resources and sessions they were given on various topics. Additionally, over 80% of young people felt inspired by what they had learnt to make a personal change in their life.
‘Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I loved it!’ - Pupil, experience of a sustainability module.
‘Working with MADE has impacted and advanced the children’s learning across all areas of the curriculum due to the positive impact on their motivation and ability to make deep connections between different elements of learning.’ - Teacher, Ebrahim Academy, London
'It has given me an opportunity to see how I can put my big dreams to change the world into action and has taught me how to break down what seems like an overwhelming task into something feasible.' – Zenab
'Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was a campaigner- this really motivated to change things in my local community. This has motivated me to become the change instead of waiting for the change I wanted to see.' – Anon.
